"Wrecking Ball" singer Miley Cyrus has finally opened up on why exactly did she decide to invite homeless man Jesse to Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards.

On Monday, Cyrus sat down with Ryan Seacrest on the latter's radio show and that's where she shared the reason behind her decision, according to Aceshowbiz.

"I just didn't realize my platform, I didn't realize my power. I realized it after the VMAs last year... there's something special and there's only few people that experience this that no matter what I do, there's no winning or losing, it's just going to be talked about, period," she said.

"No matter what I say or do... there's going to be talk, so what do I want them to talk about? You know? That's what I really had to prioritize. If I'm going to be given this loud of a voice... and this huge of an opportunity to talk to young people in America right now, what am I really trying to say? Because I don't think I was trying to say what happened the year before, really. Jesse's keeping the award."

Cyrus and Helt met last week, during the singer's visit to My Friend's Place, an organization that assists thousands of homeless youth in Hollywood, NBC News reported.

Heather Carmichael, executive director of the non-profit organization confirmed that within just a few hours, Cyrus got a hang around the homeless people and was very easygoing and approachable when interacting with them.

"What I learned about her is that she and her family have for a very long time been moved by the impact of homelessness in the community. I also understand she also has a dear friend who has this experience that our young people have," Carmichael told NBC News.

Cyrus was deeply touched by Helt's story that she decided to invite him as her date to the MTV VMAs. On Facebook, the "We Can't Stop" singer posted a video inviting everyone to donate for a good cause - to stop youth homelessness in the country.
