5 Seconds of Summer performed their hit song "Amnesia" at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards but this did not result to a much expected win for the Best Artist to Watch award.

It was the all-girl group Fifth Harmony that brought home the trophy and fans of the boy band are obviously devastated, according to Entertainment Wise.

Other competitors included Sam Smith, Charli XCX and Schoolboy Q. After announcing Fifth Harmony's win, girl's oldest member, Ally, said, "I'm literally up here shaking! And thank you so much to our fans, the Harmonizers!"

Fans of 5 Seconds of Summer took their thoughts to Twitter to express their sadness over the loss of the boy band.

One person wrote, "Who else is in a depressing mood because @5SOS didn't win artist to watch when they realized they didn't win I cried."

Twitter user @Hemmoftcxlum tweeted, "Their faces make me wanna cry im so sorry guys we didn't win this for you I feel so bad."

@5sosfollowxhelp added, "I'm so sorry we disappointed you 5sos."

@5sosSpreeAlerts quipped, "@5SOS im sorry for letting you down, we should have won Artist to Watch for you."

5 Seconds of Summer has not yet released an official statement following their loss to Fifth Harmony but they tweeted about their performance of "Amnesia" a couple of times on Sunday, MTV News noted.

"Hope you guys loved the performance. Thank you so much guys. What an insane day, I'm so proud of y'all," they wrote.

In another tweet, the band shared a link to their song that is now available on iTunes and wrote, "The #VMAs was such an epic moment for us boys! You can get Amnesia with our album on iTunes now if you liked it."
