"MythBusters" will never be the same again.
Original Mythbusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman announced at the end of the Thursday, Aug. 21, episode of Discovery Channel's hit science show that Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara were leaving the series after some ten years.
"It's not only the end of an episode, and it's not only the end of the season. It's the end of an era," said Savage, explaining that the show is going in a different direction, according to USA Today.
Byron, Belleci and Imahara, dubbed as the "Build Team," took to Twitter to give thanks to their fans after the announcement.
"After a decade of the Mythbusters, we are no longer with the show. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us," tweeted the 39-year-old artist who joined the show in 2004.
"The show is taking a new direction," she added in a follow-up post. "It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all @MythBusters."
Though she admitted she feels sad leaving the show, Byron hinted that fans might still see her in "new adventures" in the future. "I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us," she wrote on the microblogging site.
Model maker Belleci, who also joined the show in 2004, tweeted, "It's been an amazing ride for 10 years! We couldn't have done it without you guys. You're the best fans anyone could wish for. Thank you."
Lastly, Imahara, the 43-year-old electronics and radio control expert who first appeared in the show in 2005, wrote, "Thanks @MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way. Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!"
Discovery has also released a statement about the departure of the three fan favorites from the show.
"Kari, Tory and Grant have been an incredibly important part of 'MythBusters' for over a decade. From explosions to car crashes to even more explosions, this trio has helped shape MythBusters into the Emmy-nominated series it is today. Everyone at Discovery wants to thank them for their tireless work busting almost 1000 myths, and we wish them all the best on their future endeavors," read the statement issued to Entertainment Weekly.
Savage and Hyneman will be sole hosts of the science entertainment program when it returns with new episodes, E! News reported.
