While Hollywood stars continue accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for Lou Gehrig's disease awareness, there are a couple of others who are not pleased with the idea of joining the viral campaign. "Baywatch" alum Pamela Anderson is one of the nonconformists to this viral trend that seeks to raise money for a good cause, Us Weekly has learned.
On Wednesday, Aug. 20, the 47-year-old American-Canadian television and film actress took to her Facebook account to voice out her reason why she's not doing the challenge.
"Sorry, I can't bring myself to do your Ice bucket challenge," Anderson's post began. "I enjoy a good dare, It's always good to bring awareness - in fun, creative ways, I don't want to take away from that. I thought instead, I'd challenge ALS to stop animal testing."
The sexy model, who is a longtime supporter of animal rights, then cited claims on how ASL researchers maltreat animals.
"Recent experiments funded by the ALS Association, mice had holes drilled into their skulls, were inflicted with crippling illnesses, and were forced to run on an inclined treadmill until they collapsed from exhaustion. Monkeys had chemicals injected into their brains and backs and were later killed and dissected," Anderson wrote, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
"Trying to cure human diseases by relying on outdated and ineffective animal experiments isn't only cruel-it's a grave disservice to people who desperately need cures," the "Barb Wire" star, who noted that 92 out of 100 drugs that succeed in animal trails fail once in human trials according to FDA, added.
In the end, Pamela Anderson urged people on the social media to "find and support charities that never harm animals" instead, reported Daily Mail.
As of writing, Anderson's post has received hundreds of comments, and some even pointed out to the actress that the silicone in her breasts and the injections in her face have been tested on animals as well.
Interestingly, it's not only Anderson, who is against the viral ASL Ice Bucket Challenge.
Pink's husband and motocross pro Carey Hart also took to voiced out his thoughts on the ice bucket bandwagon.
"I went the contribution route. I figure ALS would rather have my money than see me wet. I'll put the water towards washing my bike later!!" Hart captioned a screenshot of his donation receipt to ALS on Instagram.
The 39-year-old then continued to gush about the ice bucket challenge on Twitter.
"It's extremely creepy and annoying how obsessed people are w/ this ice bucket challenge. The purposes is 2 raise money for an awful disease," he wrote, adding, "If you are that into seeing people dump buckets of ice water over their heads, go find a wet t shirt contest. Time to find a hobby, people."
