Actor Tony Shalhoub has been tapped to join the cast of "Nurse Jackie" in a recurring role as ER doctor Bernard Prince this coming season 7.

Such news was also confirmed on "Nurse Jackie's" official Twitter account. "Need a quick #NurseJackie fix? Emmy Award-winner Tony Shalhoub joins the cast next season!"

The Emmy-winning star will portray the character of a doctor who has a great relationship with his boss, Gloria Akalitus, played by Anna Smith. Dr. Bernard Prince will also be a constant part of Nurse Jackie's life and will potentially become a good friend to her, according to the Boston Herald.

Shalhoub, who was made famous by his role on "Monk," will officially be returning to television since his previous series ended in 2009, AV Club reported.

After which, Shalhoub also appeared in the short-lived series "We Are Men" and was involved in a Michael Bay movie "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot, the same publication noted.

His other credits include "Wings," "Men in Black," Broadway's "Act One," "Conversations with My Father," "The Odd Couple," and more, the Hollywood Reporter revealed.

Back in April, Showtime renewed "Nurse Jackie" for its seventh season, which means that fans will be able to find out what exactly will happen to Jackie after she was arrested during last season's finale.

Around the same time, the network announced that one of its main stars, Peter Facinelli, will no longer return next season, TV Guide noted. Facinelli will transfer to NBC's political drama "Odyssey."

The series, which stars Edie Falco, Merritt Wever, Dominic Fumusa, Paul Schulze, Betty Gilpin, Ruby Jerins, Stephen Wallem, Mackenzie Aladjem and Pete Facinelli is slated for release this coming 2015.

"Nurse Jackie" is produced by Tom Straw, Richie Jackson, Liv Flahive and Caryn Mandabach. The series is a joint collaboration between Showtime and Lionsgate.
