Ansel Elgort has signed on to play late pianist Van Cilburn in an upcoming biographical drama. The actor shot to A-List status after starring alongside Shailene Woodley in "The Fault in Our Stars," and will now portray Cilburn during his formative years. Deadline was first to break the news.

The upcoming flick is based on Howard Reich's novel "Van Cilburn." The young pianist obtained worldwide recognition after winning the first quadrennial International Tchaikovky Piano competition. It was helmed by the USSR at the height of the Cold War.

He stopped performing in 1978 after playing for countless, prestigious audiences. He died of bone cancer in 2013 at the age of 78.

An excited Elgort shared the news today on his social media accounts, writing, "some good news on the movie front :)."

The actor graduated from LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts, and also had a small role in "Divergent." He just finished filming "Men, Women, and Children" alongside Adam Sandler, and is currently shooting "Divergent" sequel "Insurgent."

"Van Cilburn" is being helmed by Temple Hill partners Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, along with Crystal City Entertainment in association with The Johnson Group.

Elgort recently opened up about co-star Woodley in an interview with HeyUGuys.

"We're comfortable with each other. We trust each other. It was good . . . we're pretty honest with each other and we're both pretty honest with ourselves," Ansel Elgort revealed.

"When we made this movie, there were times when, like, we don't always agree on stuff ... and that made the relationship all more real," he continued.

Woodley echoed these claims, stating, "We instantly connected, and before Fault even came around for him, we struck up a really close friendship and instantaneously became very brother-sister."

"In real life, I look at him with such admiration and such love, and when you apply that to the rules and regulations of what it is to be in love with somebody, the natural chemistry is able to exist."
