Justin Bieber fans have gone extreme to the point of self mutilation. Many fans of the "Boyfriend" singer is urging him to stop using drugs by cutting themselves.
Fans of the singer have started cutting themselves to show disapproval for the recent picture of the 18 year-old singer smoking weed, according to The Hollywood Gossip. The phenomenon has gone viral gaining popularity on Twitter under the hashtag #cut4bieber, with many fans posting pictures of themselves bleeding.
No word from Bieber regarding this disturbing trend, but singing sensation Miley Cyrus took to twitter posting her shock "#cut4bieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about," adding "There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful."
According to American Psychiatric Association (APA) DSM-IV "non-suicidal self injury" engaged in intentional self-inflicting damage to the surface of his or her body (cutting) to induce bleeding, bruising or pain. for purposes not socially sanctioned. For having negative feeling or thoughts, such as depression, anxiety, tension, anger, occurring in the period immediately prior to the self-injurious act, or relief from a negative feeling/cognitive state or interpersonal difficulty or induction of positive feeling state.
Justin Bieber fans trend to cut themselves seems to be a coping mechanism for temporary relief of intense feelings. Self-harm is most common in adolescence and young adulthood.
