'Big Bang Theory' Voice Actress Carol Ann Susi Loses Battle Against Cancer, Dies At Age 62

Actress Carol Ann Susi has died at age of 62 on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, after a brief battle with cancer, according to the Associated Press.

The death of the actress best known for voicing the character of Mrs. Wolowitz on CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" was confirmed by her agent Pam Ellis-Evenas.

"'The Big Bang Theory' family has lost a beloved member today with the passing of Carol Ann Susi, who hilariously and memorably voiced the role of Mrs. Wolowitz," said CBS and executive producers Bill Prady, Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro in a statement, quoted via Deadline.

"Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance," the statement continued.

"In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly," the statement added.

The production has made no statement regarding what they plan to do with Susi's character on the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Some of Susi's co-stars from "The Big Bang Theory" took to social media to share their sadness over the news.

Mayim Bialik posted a photo of Susi on her Instagram and captioned it: "Beloved Carol Ann Susi passed away, yes. The voice of Mrs. Wolowitz. Oh Carol Ann."

"So grateful to have known Carol Ann Susi who brought laughter & light with her always. She'll forever be in my heart," tweeted Melissa Rauch.

Kunal Nayyar also took to Twitter to speak about the news, saying: "My heart is broken. I will miss your smile. Your spirit is forever with us."

Susi studied acting at HB Studio in New York before moving to Los Angeles in the 1970s. She was discovered and casted for a number of diverse roles by the casting department at Universal Studios. Her first acting job was as Kolchack's secretary, Monique Marmelstein, in the ABC series "The Night Stalker."

She also made several guest appearances on TV shows, including "Doogie Howser, M.D.," "Just Shoot Me," "Seinfeld," "Six Feet Under," "Cheers," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Mad About You."

She also acted on a number of theater shows, including "Ladies' Room" and "Heartbreak Help and Coyote Women."

Susi is survived by her brother, Michael.
