'Modern Family' Star Sarah Hyland Wins 3-Year Restraining Order Against Ex-Boyfriend Matthew Prokop

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Andrea Thompson granted Sarah Hyland a three-year restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop Thursday, the Associated Press reported.

A hearing on Hyland's request for a stay-away order had been set for Friday, but the 24-year-old actor did not contest the order.

Hyland, 23, who plays Haley Dunphy on the hit ABC sitcom "Modern Family" got the new three-year protective order after she tapped the expertise of Lindsay Lohan's lawyer Shawn Holley and convinced a judge to consider upgrading the original, but temporary, order ahead of the Friday hearing, a court official told the New York Daily News.

Prokop, who allegedly abused Hyland physically and verbally during the past four years is now ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from her former girlfriend and her house .The "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" actor is also prohibited to go near Hyland's workplace and posses gun or ammunition, TMZ  reported.

The protection also includes the actress' Maltipoo dog named Barkley Bixby. Prokop is ordered to stay 100 yards away from the pet, and he is forbidden to attack, threaten or harm it in any way possible.

Hyland claimed in her initial Sept. 19 filing that Prokop "habitually verbally abused" her with names such as "c--t," "whore" and "slut" and physically attacked her in her garage back in May after slamming an outfit she was wearing.

"Mr. Prokop grabbed me by the shoulders and slammed my back into the side of my car," she said in her statement. "He placed both of his hands around my throat and began to choke me. His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life."

On Aug. 16, Hyland sought the help of her onscreen mom Julie Bowen, who plays Claire Dunphy on "Modern Family," to help her peacefully end her relationship with Prokop. However, Hyland claims Prokop freaked out and "ran outside into the backyard and began screaming" the moment he saw Bowen.

The "Scary Movie 5" actress added that Prokop allegedly threw a lighter at her and threatened to set one of her houses on fire. He even allegedly told her that she would never see her dog again.

Hyland and Prokop, who started dating in 2009, met while auditioning for the 2008 movie "High School Musical 3: Senior Year." They both appeared in 2011 movie "Geek Charming" together, according to Cover Media.
