George R.R. Martin To Debut New Book 'The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and The Game of Thrones' In October

George R.R. Martin is releasing a new "Game of Thrones" book in October, but it is not the "The Winds of Winter" that fans of his novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" have all been waiting for. Instead, the 65-year-old author is launching a compendium titled "The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones."

The book, which will be released on Oct. 28, "is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and HBO's 'Game of Thrones,'" according to its synopsis posted on Brooklyn Vegan.

Martin has, in fact, released a sample of what the book would be about on his official website in April, and it discusses the rise of Aegon I Targaryen, who with the help of his sisters and wives, conquered majority of Westeros atop dragons, according to Gothamist.

Martin co-wrote the book with Elio M. Garcia, Jr. and Linda Antonsson, the founders of the renowned fan site Westeros.org. The duo also fact-checked Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series to ensure continuity and accuracy, according to Vulture.

In 2011,Martin revealed in an interview with The New Yorker that whenever he cannot remember a detail, he consults Garcia. "I'll write something and email him to ask, 'Did I ever mention this before?'" he said at the time. "And he writes me right back: 'Yes, on Page 17 of Book Four.'"

Martin will be at the 92nd Street Y New York City on Oct. 26 at 8:00 p.m. to promote the book. Tickets to the event go on sale Friday, Sept. 5, at www.92Y.org. Tickets start at $100, which already includes a pre-signed copy of the book.  The event will also be live-streamed at www.92Y.org/livecast.
