Despite being the epitome of "dynamic masculinity" in "Divergent," 29-year-old Theo James revealed that it wasn't easy to become a hot muscle man for the futuristic franchise.

According to Yahoo!, the actor who plays Four alongside movie cast girlfriend Shailene Woodley's Tris said that he did much more than simply bulking up to acquire his fit movie body.

He told the UK edition of ELLE magazine, "I had to put on a lot of weight, in terms of muscle," adding, "I wanted my character to have a dynamic masculinity and not just look like a f**king beefcake."

The actor who has signed on to reprise his role in the Sci-Fi franchise's second movie "Insurgent" and the final installment "Allegiant," which has been split into two parts thought that getting in shape to play Four would be a relatively easy process.

However, the star was not aware of how intense his new workout regime would be in order to physically get into character.

The British hunk told Total Film magazine, "It was quite funny because I can kind of consider myself fairly in shape. I've done some martial arts and boxing before."

Shailene Woodley's rumored boyfriend went on to explain, "But when we were doing the costume fitting, I was in a T-shirt and we were trying on jackets, I was like, 'So you know, probably kind of in my shape, right?'

"Neil was like, 'Nah, it's going to be much more powerful'. I said, 'Oh sh*t...' I literally ran to the gym and spent a month there."

Despite "Divergent" being a box office success, the actor has admitted that he has not had to deal with "screaming" fans like "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson.
