The Orishiki Hand Bag by Naoki Kawamoto has been awarded the famous Platinum A’ Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Category by A’ Award and Competitions, as announced through a press release.

The creator of the project, Naoki Kawamoto said, “The clutch bag is a totally new way to think what it means to be a bag; a set of polygons that come together to form a closed space, edges attracted to each other through magnetism.”

Inspired from Origami, a Japanese paper folding art and Furoshiki, a traditional cloth-wrapping technique, the clutch bag is quite unique. It is not only distinct in its shape and style but also has a very specialized production process.

The Orishiki Hand Bag project started in 2009 in London and is said to work like “magic”, because, once you put things in the bag and fold it, it starts to close automatically due to the magnets in its design.

Naoki Kawamoto, a Japanese designer, has also designed the Orishiki spectacle case and the Orishiki suitcase.

The Platinum A’ Design Award is an esteemed award that is given to the top one percentile of designs that are exceptional. The parameters on which the decision of the jury is based are ergonomics, engineering, presentation, innovation, usability, fun details and technology of the design.

Awarded annually in multiple categories, the A’ Design Award and Competitions highlight the qualifications of best designs, design concepts and design-oriented products.
