England Football star David Beckham beats the rest in the race to be the first solo male star to make in to the Cover of Women's fashion magazine, Elle.
After months of speculation on who will be given the honor of being the first man to ever to appear on the cover of top women's fashion magazine, Elle UK has finally announced that it would be none other than England football star, David Beckham.
Elle UK Editor, Lorraine Candy said in an interview that Beckham will be on the cover of their July edition, an edition dedicated to this Summer's Olympic games in London. It is only but obvious that Beckham would be their first choice as "He bridges the gap between British Sports and British Fashion."
The editor said, "David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support a historical and patriotic year. He is an icon and Elle is known for featuring icons on its cover. This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike. Anyway, who doesn't want to see a picture of one of the world's most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine? It will be a collector's issue."
Other men have previously appeared on the cover of this magazine but never alone. They have either posed with their girlfriend or some famous celebrity. Former cover models include Ewan MacGregor (who posed with Renee Zelwegger) and Liam Gallagher who shared page real estate with his wife, Nicole Appleton of All Saints.
