Since the news broke earlier this month that a female-led "Ghostbusters" reboot is indeed happening, fans of the franchise have been revealing names of actresses that they want to see in the project, and it appears that Emma Stone and Mindy Kaling are two of the most popular choices.

Bill Murray, one of the original cast of the film series but is not involved in the upcoming reboot, revealed his personal casting choices for the female-centric "Ghostbusters" film in an interview with Toronto Sun at the Toronto International Film Festival last month while promoting his new comedy-drama movie "St. Vincent,"  and Stone was included on his list, along with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Linda Cardellini.

This weekend at the New York Film Festival premiere of her new film "Birdman," the 25-year-old "The Amazing Spider-Man" star was asked by Vulture how it felt to know that Murray wanted to see her in the "Ghostbusters" reboot. "That's very nice," she said, before jokingly said, "I want to see Bill Murray in a female 'Ghostbusters.'"

Kaling, on the other hand, fantasy-cast a female "Ghostbusters" squad in her 2011 book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" - putting herself alongside Emily Blunt, Taraji P. Hinson and Natalie Portman - and so when Vulture asked her at the New Yorker Festival party this past weekend if she is down to take on one of the roles in the Paul Feig-directed project, she answered: "I love Paul, and I would never deign to take up his time by lobbying."

"It's such an amazing movie, that the whole area of speculating on it is ... I think it's out of my pay grade," she added.

Also this past weekend, while Gillian Anderson was promoting her new novel "A Vision of Fire" during a Reddit AMA, the 46-year-old actress was asked whether she has any interest in joining the new "Ghostbusters" reboot.

Anderson did not seem familiar with the project, but when she learned that it was going to be an all-female cast, she immediately showed her interest in any role.

"OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online," she wrote. "Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I'm free!!!!! I'm free I'm free and I'm funny goddamnit!"

When one user offered help to mobilize interest in the petition, the Golden Globe-winning actress replied: "MAKE IT HAPPEN!!"

Feig will direct the reboot from a script he will co-write with Katie Dippold, who penned the 2013 female buddy action comedy "The Heat."
