On the eve of New York Fashion Week, a charity fashion event The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection Fashion Show was held at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Wednesday, featuring celebrity fashionistas in stunning red dresses.

On the runway were Christie Brinkley in a floor-length Pamella Roland gown, Gloria Estefan in Narciso Rodriguez gown, Rose McGowan in a Roberto Cavalli gown, Minka Kelly in a plunging Diane Von Furstenberg dress, Jenna Elfman in a dramatic Alberta Ferretti gown, Giselle Blondet in Oscar De La Renta and Rebecca Romijn in a strapless tomato red Marchesa gown, to name a few.

The event is held with a purpose to raise awareness of women's heart health. Heart disease is the leading killer of women in the U.S., and The Heart Truth celebrates its 10th anniversary in partnership with Million Hearts in attempt to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years, according to Reuters.

"Women can greatly reduce their risk of heart disease by managing cholesterol levels, controlling blood pressure, not smoking, and adopting other healthy habits, such as eating well, being active and keeping a healthy weight," said Susan Shurin, acting director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

Brinkley said she hesitated to take part this year, because she wanted to spend quality time with her mother who is suffering from serious heart disease. But the supermodel's parents encouraged her to do it. "My parents understand more than anyone about the importance of getting the right care. They're proud of me that I've reached a place where I can give back," the 58-year-old supermodel told The Associated Press.
