Robin Williams' daughter Zelda has gone back to Twitter almost three weeks after abandoning the site because of "cruel and unnecessary comments" on her father's death.

Zelda returned from her self-imposed hiatus to Twitter Monday. Her first post simply read "Thank you," accompanied by a link to her Tumblr page which mentions a quote from actor and director Harvey Fierstein, who played Frank Hillard in her father's 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire.

The quote says: "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself."

Zelda, 25, quit Twitter, as well as Instagram, due to offensive messages and posts regarding her father, who was found dead on August 11 after hanging himself. One such message sent to her contained an edited picture of Robin Willims' dead body.

"I'm sorry. I should've risen above. Deleting this from my devices for a good long time, maybe forever. Time will tell. Goodbye," the actress and writer said on Twitter before deleting her account.

Executives of the social networking site then took action over the bullying. Del Harvey, Twitter's vice president of trust and safety, said in a statement, "We will not tolerate abuse of this nature on Twitter."

"We have suspended a number of accounts related to this issue for violating our rules and we are in the process of evaluating how we can further improve our policies to better tragic situations like this," the executive said.

Amid the abuse, Zelda received messages of support from people in the show business, in addition to the condolences the family got from her father's innumerable fans and supporters around the world and across generations.

Film critic Scott Weinberg said on Twitter, "I hope @zeldawilliams knows that the people who love her outnumber the scumbags by about 94,000,000 to 1."
