Jessica Chastain has been offered the starring role in "True Detective," according to reports. Fans are anxiously awaiting season two and it was rumored creator Nic Pizzolatto wanted a female lead this time. This comes on the heels of rumors that Brad Pitt would join the cast.

The critically acclaimed first season starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, whose characters worked together to solve a string of crimes over the course of two decades. The show is an anthology series, meaning every season will deliver a new set of characters and plot (like "American Horror Story").

"This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system." Pizzolatto said during an interview with HitFix.

Unfortunately the "Zero Dark Thirty" star's rep told E! news Chastain would not be doing the series. HBO echoed these claims.

The actress found small screen success with "Law and Order: Trial By Jury," "Veronica Mars," and "ER." We will see her again on the big screen in flicks "Interstellar," "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby," and "Miss Julie."

Chastain inspired students during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in a speech about her career.

"My favorite book is "To Kill a Mocking Bird" and Atticus Finch - I'm going to butcher it - says something about: You don't judge a person until you've worn their skin and walked around it. As an actress, I get to wear other people's skin. In doing so, it make me feel bigger than myself. Sometimes America, especially, can be a self-centered nation. The more variety of women I play, the more it reminds me of the variety of people in the world and that we're all connected," she recently told Boston Herald.
