It looks like "The Walking Dead" fans are in for a treat as the hit show based on the popular series of graphic novels has officially found a showrunner to write and produce the upcoming spin-off.

According to Hollywood Life, back in September 2013 AMC announced that the network would be moving forward with a spin off series.

Not only will the new show be receiving help from a familiar name but its premiere date has been pushed up.

This news comes just as "The Walking Dead" is nearing its season 4 finale episode.

Fans can now expect to see the spin off make its debut earlier than its initial 2015 premiere date.

Dave Erickson, who has worked as an executive producer on the show "Sons of Anarchy," will take on the same title on "The Walking Dead" spin-off.

He will also act as a co-write to the show alongside Robert Kirkman who is the original writer of "The Walking Dead" series and graphic novel.

Although details for the spin off have been kept quiet it is known that the show will serve more as a "companion" series than a true spin-off.

It won't feature any of the fan favorite characters from the AMC original series but it will tell a separate yet horrifying story.
