Maintaining your looks and beauty just got that much easier and cheaper!

In a recent study released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 15.1 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in the United States in 2013, up 3% since 2012. Americans spend a lot of money on beauty.

According to Mila Mintsis, a Certified Acupuncturist at Shift PT in New York City, acupuncture is a great way to improve your looks without having to turn to plastic surgery or other more complicated and expensive methods. Mintsis states that "acupuncture has been used to improve physical appearance for thousands of years. Cosmetic acupuncture has no side effects, promotes holistic health, well-being and is a great alternative to invasive, and not-to-mention costly, cosmetic procedures."

Acupuncture facial rejuvenation also referred to as the Acupuncture Facelift, is a simple, natural and healthy way to look and feel better. The typical procedure involves placing small, hair-thin needles along certain points on the body, head and face. By placing these needles into the skin, you create a positive micro-trauma, which is thought to stimulate fibroblasts and increase collagen production in the skin.

Treatments improve muscle tone and dermal contraction, increase collagen production, tighten pores, and increase local circulation of blood and lymph around the face. It can be used to reduce a double chin and sagging jowls, help to decrease inflammation, as well as puffy or even droopy eyelids.

In a recent study on Cosmetic Acupuncture conducted by The International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture out of 300 people, 270 saw a noticeable decrease of facial wrinkles after just one treatment. Their skin felt firmer to the touch and elasticity was improved.

Other benefits include improved skin tone, diminished wrinkles and fine lines, a more radiant complexion, an energized body, and a reduction in the appearance of redness and acne scars.

The usual treatment course consists of 10 treatments, which are performed twice a week, for 5 weeks and once a month is recommended thereafter for maintenance. The price range for this type of beauty treatment ($150 per session) is also more affordable than many other treatment options such as lasers, fillers, botox and invasive plastic surgery.
