Following his split from Nina Dobrev it seems Ian Somerhalder just can't catch a break. "The Vampire Diaries" star took to his Twitter account to talk about his rough day dealing with racism in the airport.

While the actor typically uses his Twitter and Instagram accounts to talk about the environment on Saturday he decided to talk about something completely different.

According to Entertainment Wise, Somerhalder tweeted his more than 4.2 million followers about an alleged racist attack he experienced while in the airport.

While catching a flight out of Atlanta, Georgia on October 19th, the city where his hit CW show is shot, the hot actor experienced racism from some airline employees and urged his fans not accept intolerance.

He wrote, "By the way-Racism SUCKS.I got it in ATLa few hours ago from(believe it or not)American Airlines employees.Compassion&tolerance-the way to go."

In the next tweet he posted it read, "I'm not saying it to say 'poor me poor me' NOPE-Im just saying i hope this next generation-YOU,stops judging&starts loving..."

Ian Somerhalder has been busy shooting the latest season of "The Vampire Diaries" and promoting the show that he stars in alongside his ex-girlfriend who recently broke up with her new boyfriend Derek Hough.

In an interview on "Live with Kelly and Michael" earlier this week, although he refused to discuss his real love life he did talk about that of his character Damon's relationship with Nina Dobrev's Elena which is said to be doomed to fail.

He said, "You can't be too happy in Mystic Falls. He got the girl, finally. It's cute, man. You've got this guy who's a maniacal killer, with the same look on his face whether he's saving a kitten from a tree or ripping your face off, and he's in love.

"It's cute. ... And it's not going to last, probably."
