Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has gotten a full 2013-2014 season pick up! 

The series' actors have signed on for 22 episodes after ABC gave the greenlight to shoot the back-nine episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The network's Tuesday night heroes are sticking around for a while. The news is not shocking given that this show was arguably the most anticipated new fall show.

"S.H.I.E.L.D." opened as TV's highest-rated new drama in nearly four years despite airing in a tough 8 p.m. time slot, reported EW.

According to Hollywood Life, the new hero-centric drama pulled in 12.1 million total viewers in its premiere three weeks ago The first season opener was so popular that ABC gave fans a chance to watch it again that following Thursday.

Episodes after the premiere haave dropped notably from that first number, but this week's ratings were second in the hour with 7.9 million viewers. In the age 18-49 range, 2.9 million adults tuned in on Tuesday.

For the series co-creator, Joss Whedon, the pick up marks his first full broadcast season since The WB's fifth and final season of "Angel" concluded in 2004.

"S.H.I.E.L.D" became the third new fall show to get a pickup, with Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" being renewed for a 13-episode second season and NBC giving "The Blacklist" a full season.

The shows airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
