For this world famous couple, everyone thinks they know the back story of Kate Middleton and Prince William but the truth just recently came out.

Many believe that the royal couple at St. Andrews University, became friends and, later, roommates, and then started dating, according to Us Weekly.

However, royal biographer and Vanity Fair contributor Katie Nicholl revealed the truth in her new book, "Kate: The Future Queen."

The author spilled that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met long before they even attended St. Andrews University in 2001.

In an interview with Katie Couric that will air on September 17th, Nicholl told the journalist that a couple of friends of the Duchess shared how the gorgeous socialite met her prince.

"This was really fascinating for me," Nicholl told Couric.

"I was speaking to some of her friends at Marlborough School, which was where she went before St. Andrews, and they said, 'Uh uh, she didn't meet him at St. Andrews. She met him before she got there...through some of her friends. They knew Prince William and Prince Harry.'"

She continued, "So there was an early meeting. And that for me changed everything."

Nicholl finds the earlier meeting interesting because in a last minute decision Middleton had a change of heart about school.

In the book the author said that Prince George's mother originally wanted to attend Edinburgh, not St. Andrews. After receiving her Edinburgh acceptance letter, she made the sudden decision to drop her place, take a year off and then reapply to St. Andrews.

Nicholl wrote in the book, "It was a big risk -- applicants to St. Andrews had shot up by nearly 50 percent when the Palace announced that Prince William was going there."

However, Middleton was accepted into the school and the rest is history. They married in 2011 and welcomed son Prince George into the world in July.
