At the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, Shailene Woodley's latest film "Divergent" showed its first trailer.

In an action packed clip, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" star was seen dodging flying knives, jumping off of buildings, and feeling up a sexy tattooed back for the film adaptation of Veronica Roth's young adult novel, according to the Daily Mail.

In the Neil Burger directed flick, Kate Winslet's character Jeanine Matthews can be seen warning Woodley's character Beatrice Tris to make the right decision as she says, "The future belongs to those who know where they belong."

Woodley plays the film's 16-year old protagonist and narrator, who lives in a futuristic Chicago. There, society is divided by five factions that each value a different outlook on life.

The Daily Mail reported that the factions consist of Abnegation, where Beatrice was raised, which is for the selfless, Dauntless for the brave, Amity for the peaceful, Candor for the honest, and Erudite for the intelligent.

The "Divergent" trailer features Maggie Q's character Tori telling Beatrice, "You are different, you don't fit into a category, you are a divergent, don't let them find out about you."

The actress is then seen leaping off a building in an effort to avoid armed soldiers. During her journey Beatrice befriends Theo James' character, Four, who she quickly becomes enamored with makes out with.

The film also stars Miles Teller, Ashley Judd, Mekhi Phifer and Zoe Kravitz. Beatrice's journey of being a Divergent will conclude following the release of Roth's final installment of the series with the novel "Allegiant" due out in October.
