Pop music icon, Lady Gaga is back and wearing more makeup than ever.

The mega diva superstar revealed the cover of her upcoming single, Applause, set to release on August 19, six days before what is sure to be an epic performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25.

Never delivering a dull moment, Gaga knows how to keep all eyes on her. And this latest look is no exception.

Lady Gaga's latest shows the star in a full face of dramatically theatrical makeup. A white clown-like face is magnified with vivid blue paint around Gaga's eyes, smeared down towards cheeks, for. Tearful effect. Orange and red paint are spied with similar effect near the Starr's mouth, for an overall somber feeling. Gaga's hair is covered in a black scarf and her body in a white sheet. Talk about drama!

As for Gaga's inspiration for such dramatic makeup, the singer explained the look represents a vulnerable side of her that the public doesn't really see. "It's the end of the night after the show," she said. "When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest."

So is Artpop set to be a more subdued, saddened pop diva? Apparently not. When asked what the general theme of her upcoming album.  "I'll tell you that it is very fun," she says. "And that it's full of happiness, because what I'm saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch." We're guessing there are some highly anticipated song lyrics here.
