As a royal, Prince Harry is already considered a hero for many young boys who aspire to join the army or those who simply dream of being royalty. However to one particular man he is a real life hero.

The 28-year-old royal reportedly saved the life of one of the soldiers under his command back in 2008.According to Lance Corporal James Wharton,  the prince defended him against a homophobic attack.

In his new memoir "Out in the Army" Wharton revealed Harry was quick to defend him after bullies allegedly threatened his life, according to Us Weekly.

Wharton served under Harry for four months during a training period in Canada. In his memoir he describes how he "stupidly" bragged to members of his infantry about how he "scored the night before" with another officer.

Unfortunately his carless sharing resulted in him being approached by six soldiers asking why he was "spreading rumors about our Martin."

According to Us Weekly, Wharton wrote, "This was turning into a bit of a situation."

"Under huge pressure I went back to my vehicle to find Prince Harry. ...I told him: 'I think I'm about to be murdered by the infantry.'"

The new author said that he took Prince Harry through everything that happened leading up to his life being threatened.

"He had a complete look of bewilderment on his face. I didn't hold back: I told him everything that had gone on. I couldn't stop the tears from welling up in my eyes. He said: 'Right, I'm going to sort this s--t out once and for all.'"

Wharton revealed that following that moment the prince jumped out of the tank and confronted the other soldiers angrily.

"I worried he was about to make the whole thing worse, but he wasn't holding back."

Wharton explained. "Prince Harry was sticking up for me and putting a stop to the trouble. I had been on track for a battering and had been rescued."

Following his hero moment Harry and Wharton remained close throughout the duration of the training period.

The Lance Corporal left the army in early 2013, but said that when he looks back at their time together in the military he has fond memories, due to Harry's "kindness," Us Weekly reported.

"I'll never forget the four weeks we worked together and the incredible conversations we shared," he wrote.

"The experience lives on as the stand-out period of my decade in the military."
