If there is a manicure trend that seems to be everywhere, it's the rhinestone nails. And because it is just irresistible, you constantly find yourself with sparkly designs on your nails. That is why it is important to learn how to use them and remove them safely, too.

Rhinestone Nails

Rhinestones are a popular and versatile accessory that can add sparkle and glamor to any manicure. These small, decorative gems come in various colors, sizes, and shapes, making them a versatile option for nail art enthusiasts.

These little gems are often arranged in a pattern that creates rhinestone nails, a trend in manicures that has long emerged and has stayed since.

How to Use Rhinestones on Nails

Applying rhinestones to nails involves a simple three-step process using rhinestones, a rhinestone applicator, and a rhinestone adhesive. Once you have all your tools together, you can start the application process.

1. The Preparation

It is important to ensure that the nail color is dry before applying the rhinestones.

If you are applying rhinestones on acrylic nails or dip powder nails, it is recommended to apply them on the nail before applying the top coat. The rough surface of the nail will allow for better adhesion and make the rhinestones last longer.

2. Adhesive

When applying the rhinestone adhesive, start by swiping a layer of adhesive to the area where your rhinestones will be placed. You do not need to apply it to the entire nail. Then, using a rhinestone applicator, pick up a stone with the wax end, and place the rhinestone on your nail.

It is useful to have a design that you can follow for your rhinestone nails so that you can position your gems before the adhesive dries.

3. Seal It Down

Once the rhinestones are applied, cure the nail under a lamp. Using gel polish as your top coat would ensure that aside from the adhesive, it has a seal that will help hold it down to your nails for a longer period.

How to Remove Rhinestones Safely From Your Nails

Removing the gem from your rhinestone nails that are already a few weeks old can be made easy with the right tools and techniques. You can use acetone, tweezers, nail clippers, and a hair dryer or heat gun to detach the gems.

Acetone can dissolve excess glue, while tweezers can help remove stubborn stones. Nail clippers can trim away any remaining glue or stones. When using acetone, apply it to the nail, and wait for the glue to dissolve before carefully peeling off the rhinestones. Make sure to use gloves when handling acetone so that your skin doesn't get too exposed to it.

Alternatively, you can use a good nail polish remover with acetone, but it might take a bit longer.

Using Tweezers and Clippers

Grip the stone firmly but gently with tweezers or nail clippers, being careful not to damage it. Pull the stone away from your nail bed slowly and firmly, taking care not to rush to avoid damage.

After removal, clean up any residual glue or stones with acetone-free polish remover, moisturize your hands and cuticles, and reapply a top coat to protect your nails. This process is simple and requires minimal supplies, allowing for easy removal without damaging your nails.

Using Hair Dryer

By using a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting, you can soften the glue holding the stones in place. It's important to keep your hand steady and move slowly to avoid overheating any area of the nail bed or causing damage to your skin.

Once the glue is heated, carefully peel off the rhinestones, being cautious not to pull too hard or damage the nail polish. This method provides a simple and effective way to remove rhinestones without resorting to harsh acetone removers.
