Getting acne breakouts, especially before special occasions, can dent your self-esteem. While it's generally recommended to let your skin breathe during acne flare-ups, there are times when using makeup becomes inevitable to conceal blemishes.

However, even with makeup, it can be challenging to effectively cover those pesky red and raised pimples, making your makeup appear textured and not quite right. If you find yourself struggling with this issue and are unsure about the best technique to employ, here's a TikTok trend that might be the solution: the "sandwich" method.

The sandwich method, popularized by TikTok skincare and beauty content creator Erica Nicole, has become a go-to makeup hack for many.

"I have been dealing with severe hormonal acne for the past 10 years," the influencer said in a TikTok video. "So you best believe that I've tried literally every single product and every single technique and this is what works."

The method earned its name because it involves starting with a setting spray and powder, followed by concealer, finishing off with powder and setting spray -- like a sandwich with concealer in between.

Here's a step-by-step guide.

First, begin with a fresh face, then apply a setting spray all over, essentially employing a reverse method.

Next, lightly dab your concealer brush into a powder pot and cover each pimple gently. Don't use too much powder, just enough to mattify the pimple spot to make it appear "less inflamed," Erica Nicole advised.

Following that step, it's time to apply the concealer. Conceal every acne or blemish on your face. If you have an open pimple, instead of dabbing concealer directly on the acne, just outline it using an applicator.

Allow the concealer to sit for about two minutes. You can squeeze in other steps in your typical makeup routine during this waiting period, such as your eyebrow or mascara routine. Once the concealer becomes "tacky," gently dab the spots and blend seamlessly, instead of spreading, with a concealer brush.

If you prefer, add powder blush to reintroduce color to your face. Then, to set the entire makeup, use the same powder you started with.

To complete the "sandwich," simply spray the same setting spray you used in the first step, and voila, your skin looks flawless.

While this makeup hack has become popular in the TikTok beauty community as a highly effective method for concealing blemishes, it's worth experimenting to see if it works for you. Feel free to adjust the technique based on your individual needs and preferences.
