HeiQ, a leader in textile innovation, introduced HeiQ Skin Care, an advanced 100% biobased cosmetic finishing technology.

Introduced last month at the 2023 ISPO trade show in Munich, Germany, the revolutionary, patent-pending technology, crafted for next-to-skin apparel and home textiles, harnesses the power of active probiotics and selected prebiotics to enrich the skin's microbiome diversity, promoting healthy and radiant skin, according to HeiQ.

What sets HeiQ Skin Care apart from other products is that it integrated slow-release prebiotics and probiotics into a biobased textile matrix, ensuring prolonged cosmetic benefits even after repeated washing.

The synbiotics, or synergistic combination of prebiotics and probiotics, in the technology facilitates skin renewal, balance, and a more youthful appearance, reducing signs of aging and supporting the skin's natural repair mechanisms.

Trials conducted during development confirmed the consistent release of synbiotics onto the skin, fostering a balanced microbiome for improved skin health, according to HeiQ.

The company said on its website that HeiQ Skin Care boasts a long-lasting performance of "up to 40 home launderings," has been "proven successful in intensive wear trials," is non-irritant to the skin, and has "no impact on fabric properties such as breathability, color, hand feel or wicking."

"HeiQ Skin Care represents a leap forward in textile innovation, combining the power of probiotics and prebiotics to enhance skin microbiome and overall skin appearance. It is another way of delivering our promise of improving the lives of billions, which is at the core of everything we do at HeiQ," Mike Abbott, head of HeiQ textiles and flooring business unit, said in a press release. "Our technology is a testament to HeiQ's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what textiles can achieve."

The versatility of HeiQ Skin Care extends to various textile fibers, natural and synthetic. The company said it can be applied to all textiles in direct contact with the skin, from activewear and leisurewear to bedding items like sheets and pillows.

Founded in 2005 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, HeiQ, a London Stock Exchange Main Market-listed company, boasts 14 offices, seven manufacturing sites, and seven R&D hubs.

Employing 230 professionals, HeiQ serves over 1,000 industrial customers across 60 countries, producing 45,000 tons of specialty chemicals annually.
