Coconut oil hair mask works wonders for the hair. The good news is, you can make your own coconut oil hair mask. It is easy and inexpensive, just remember to use the unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil.

According to Healthline, coconut oil hair masks can reduce protein loss when used as a prewash and post-wash grooming product. Virgin coconut oil can also penetrate the hair shaft and help retain moisture and make hair softer to touch. Not to mention, coconut oil had natural antibacterial and antifungal properties for common skin problems.

Coconut oil hair mask recipes for each hair type

There's going to be a different recipe for every hair type. It is important that you know what your hair type is.

For oily hair

You can mix equal parts of melted coconut oil and lemon juice. Once you apply the mixture to your hair, wait for about 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Apply it on your hair two times a week.

For brittle hair

You will need virgin coconut oil (two tablespoons) and castor oil (two tablespoons). Apply the hair mask to hair and then leave it on for about 20 minutes. Applying it for at least two times a week can help strengthen hair and decrease breakage.

For dull hair

You can fix dull hair with this simple coconut oil plus apple cider vinegar hair mask recipe. Simply mix coconut oil (two tablespoons) and apple cider vinegar (one tablespoon) then apply it to your hair. Then leave the applied hair mask on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing and washing it as you would normally do.

For curly hair

If you have curly or wavy hair but is in very bad shape, you can try this recipe to make it naturally bouncy again. What your need is virgin coconut oil (3 tablespoons), 2 egg yolks, and honey (1 ½ tablespoon). Pour in melted coconut oil into a bowl, then blend the honey in. Add the egg yolks and mix the ingredients. Apply it to your wet hair, then wrap it in a warm towel. Leave it on for about 45 minutes or overnight (use a shower cap) before rinsing it off.

For thinning/damaged hair

Egg yolk also works great for thinning or damaged hair that badly needs nourishment. Simply mix coconut oil (2 tablespoons) with one egg yolk, honey (½ teaspoon), and avocado (half slice). Apply the mixture into the scalp and hair. Wait for about 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

Alternatively, you can use rosemary and nettle tea to promote thicker, healthier hair. Add fresh rosemary (¾ cup) and 1 nettle teg bag into a cup of boiling water. Let it steep for one hour before straining the liquid and letting it cool. On wet hair, spray it on and leave it on overnight.

For frizzy hair

If your hair is frizzy , try using banana to help nourish and protect your hair. You need one ripe banana for this recipe. Peel, chop, and then put it in the blender. Add coconut oil (1 tablespoon) and then blend them until a smooth consistency. Apply the hair mask mixture to your hair and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Rinse it off thoroughly.
