US president Donald Trump has made some decisions and policies that have caused anger and confusion among many. But on the brighter side, that is not always a bad thing since he has inspired many people to create something creative and unique, as well.
Katie Sones, a graphic communications junior, created a matte liquid lipstick brand called Lipslut, which she and the other college students also dubbed as the "Fuck Trump" lipstick -- "Finally, a lipstick as bold as you."
For the first product, Sones decided to hold a poll on the brand's social media, asking the followers to pick the color. According to the Lipslut website, the followers picked a "mid-tone, nude pink."
Sones said she choose the controversial name for the product to express her voice, Katie wants to do more for the cause. She had never donated before so now she is thinking of doing it. She told Mustang News, the college newspaper website, "People are going to buy lipstick either way, so if you could do that and have the money go somewhere that you support, that would be perfect."
Fifty percent of the lipstick's profit will go to a woman's charity. And again, she asks the customers to vote on the charity they wish to donate. Each customer is eligible for writing in their vote since "it's gonna be the popular vote that's gonna win," she said.
Lipslut aims to donate to causes that support women, including organizations like Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Campaign and the National Organization for Women. "We want to integrate philanthropy into everyday life; why not support something you care about?" Sones said.
The company is run by students and the team has grown into ten representatives across California. The leftover from the sales is planned to be used to expand the company.
On their website, Lipslut said that the product is "50 percent towards charity, 100 percent against tyranny, and of course, 100 percent cruelty free." They also describe the "Fuck Trump" lipstick as "Finally, a lipstick as bold as you."
