"Beetlejuice 2" may have taken 27 years to make but it's definitely happening.

Winona Ryder, one of the stars of the first film, revealed during an interview with Huffington Post that the sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 comedy-horror classic may start filming this year.

"As far as I know, it's gonna happen," said Ryder, who was at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah to promote her new film "The Experimenter."

She didn't divulge any more details about the highly anticipated sequel, but her response supports director Tim Burton's and star Michael Keaton's previous remarks that the film is indeed in the works.

In fact, Burton told IGN back in December that "Beetlejuice 2" is "closer than ever" to becoming a reality, adding that he will definitely be bringing Keaton back to play Betelgeuse.

“There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael," said the director.

He went on to say, "There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”

When asked by MTV if he plans on inviting Ryder to reprise her role, Burton said, "Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah."

Early last year, Keaton has already confirmed that he's willing to film a sequel. He only has one condition: that Burton sits on the director's chair.

"I’ve emailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff," the 63-year-old "Birdman" star in an interview with Variety.

"I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another," he continued.

Keaton starred in "Beetlejuice" as quirky spirit Betelgeuse, who is hired by a recently deceased couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), to scare away the family that has moved into their home.

Ryder, then 17, played the couple's daughter who could see spirits and certainly wasn't scared of them.
