Khan Bonfils, the 42-year-old British actor who appeared in a couple of "James Bond" films and in "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace" died in London this week, E! News has learned.

According to several sources, Bonfils - passed away after he collapsed while in the middle of a play rehearsal, which was just a few days prior to their opening night.

"With great sadness, we announce the death of Kan Bonfils. His sudden loss is a tragedy and he will be sorely missed," the company producing "Dante's Inferno: A Modern Telling" play, Craft Theatre, posted on Twitter just this Tuesday.

Details on the cause of death of the late actor are yet to be released, according to the BBC.

Chris Hislop, a spokesperson for the theater company, also told the media that when Khan Bonfils collapsed amid the rehearsal, director Rocky Rodriguez Jr. quickly rushed to him to perform a CPR.

Hislop added that though they had quickly called out for an ambulance, Khan was already incapable of being resuscitated.

"We've been through a bit of a trauma, it's all very difficult to stomach," Rodriguez wrote on Craft Theatre's website of the untimely demise of Khan, who also went by the name Kan.

"The only thing we know how to do is continue to do what we do. We need to finish the journey that Kan was on," the director added.

''The entire company are in shock. There is absolutely severe sadness, it is a real tragedy. I think they are holding it together by talking it through and by being there for each other," Hislop quipped.

Following the death of the "Star Wars" star, Craft Theatre announced that one of Bonfils' closest friends, Ryan Prescott, is to take over his role, reports People.

The play has also been moved to open on Saturday instead of Thursday.
