Hugh Jackman's performance in the Broadway adaptation of "The River" at the Circle in the Square Theater in New York is bringing in a celebrity crowd, The New York Post reported.

"The X-Men Origins: Wolverine" actor is the star of "The River," a short three-person play written by Jez Butterworth and directed by Ian Rickson. It stars Jackman as The Man, Cush Jumbo as The Woman, and Laura Donnelly as The Other Woman.

Celebrities in attendance include friends of Jackman, such as actress Ellen Burstyn, with whom Jackson co-starred with in the 2006 film "The Fountain;" stage actress Carol Kane; and businesswoman Ivanka Trump, who said she has been friends with Jackman for five years and wanted to support him.

The editor-in-chief of "Vogue," Anna Wintour, was also seen posing for photos with the cast of the play. Broadway theater producer Sonia Friedman was seen in the crowd wearing fox fur, while fashion designer Donna Karan was spotted using a cane.

Other prominent figures spotted in the crowd were comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica, actor and producer Harvey Keitel and writer Cindy Adams, according to Showbiz 411.

"I know him enough to know I have to come see him," Keitel said of Jackman. The producer came to watch the play with his wife Daphna.

Ben Brantley, a journalist and theater critic for the New York Times, was also in the crowd. He said he was mesmerized by the play and by Jackman's performance.

Jackman is known for his stage works, having won a Tony Award in 2004 for his musical performance in "The Boy From Oz." His performance in "The River" marks his return to the stage since his 2011 show, "Hugh Jackman: Back on the Broadway."

"The River" was initially produced and previously staged at the Royal Court Theater in London and is Butterworth's first play since 2011's "Jerusalem." The play, which has a running time of 90 minutes, will be shown on Broadway until Jan. 25.
