Hilary Duff knows how to handle the spotlight even during difficult times.

In a new interview with Elle Canada, the 27-year-old singer-actress was asked how she has been dealing with recent split from estranged husband Mike Comrie, in the middle of all media attention that she is getting.

"I have a good therapist!" the "Lizzie McGuire" alum told the magazine with a laugh. "I've dealt with [attention] for such a long time. But some of the bigger struggles that came my way in the past two years-like my separation or when my parents separated-were the first times I had to deal with people knowing about something personal happening to my family. It just felt so invasive and insensitive. It got really gross, and I think part of you gets a bit desensitized."

"The best way to handle it is by just owning your shit," she added. "I'm human and this is what happened. None of us is perfect."

Duff and the 34-year-old retired NHL player tied the knot in August 2010 in Santa Barbara, Calif. In March 2012, the couple welcomed their son Luca. But in January this year, the two announced that they had separated but would continue to co-parent their son, E! News reported

But just this September, the "Chasing the Sun" singer revealed on The Kyle & Jackie O's KIIS 106.5 show that there is still the possibility of reconciliation.

"I mean, if there wasn't a chance for getting back [together], I think we would've filed for divorce," said the "A Cinderella Story" star. "We're not putting any-I talk about this so much, I really don't want to talk about it anymore-but we are like-I just talked to him this morning! We really care a lot about each other. "

"We're just really laid-back, and we're like well whatever happens, happens," Duff added. "Once we're tired of doing this, we'll either make this choice or make this choice."
