Paramount Picture and Jerry Bruckheimer are working together on a television adaptation of the 1980 film "American Gigolo," Ace Showbiz reported.

"American Gigolo," starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton, is a crime drama film set in Los Angeles. It tells the story of a male escort named Julian, portrayed by Gere, who begins a relationship with the wife of a local politician named Michelle, portrayed by Hutton. One of Julian's clients ends up being murdered and Julian eventually gets caught in the investigation.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the original film, will serve as the executive producer of the show and will be working with Brad Grey, CEO of Paramount Pictures, and Amy Powell, president of Paramount Television.

"With its signature noir aesthetic, 'American Gigolo' has remained a deeply entertaining, psychological thriller and I'm thrilled to partner with Brad and Amy on remaking it into a television series," Bruckheimer said.

Joining the project are Jerry Bruckheimer Television's Jonathan Littman, who will serve as executive producer; KristieAnne Reed, who will be the co-executive producer; and Michael Azzolino, who will serve as producer, according to Variety. Paul Schrader, who directed and wrote the original film, will also serve as an executive consultant.

"When it comes to making great television entertainment, Jerry Bruckheimer Television is in a league unto themselves," Powell stated. "We take enormous pride in collaborating with Jerry, Jonathan and KristieAnne on developing a drama series that is every bit as cinematic, suspenseful, and stylish as the film."

"American Gigolo" is set to join a roster of other television remakes currently in development, Hollywood Reporter stated.

Paramount Television will release a follow-up of Tom Cruise's movie "Minority Report." They are teaming up with Amblin TV and 20th TV.

Meanwhile, NBC is currently working on Jennifer Aniston's "Marley and Me," and has plans for "Bewitched," "Problem Child" and "The Money Pit."

On the other hand, FOX plans "Big" and Jennifer Lopez's "Monster-in-Law," while CBS is looking into adaptations for "Rush Hour" and "In Good Company."

The CW has plans for "The Illusionist," and Showtime and MGM TV have plans to release a reboot "In the Heat of the Night."
