Katie Holmes talked about her plans for her career, life after her divorce to Tom Cruise and what it's like to be a single mother during an interview for People magazine's Oct. 29 issue, The Star Pulse reported.

Holmes, 35, said that in between getting past her divorce to Cruise and going forward with her career, her top priority was her eight-year-old daughter Suri. She knew how her divorce from Cruise back in 2012 made headlines but stated that she had moved on from that with her daughter by her side.

"I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," Holmes said. "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."

Holmes also opened up about what it was like to start over and how she was handling life as a single mom, People stated.

"I don't have any fear now. I don't have a lot of rules for myself and I don't take myself that seriously," Holmes said.

Holmes claimed she was more relaxed now and "ready for new challenges" when it came to her career.

She is all set for her directorial debut next year with Reelz Channel's "The Kennedys: After Camelot," in which she will also star in as Jacqueline Kennedy. It is a role she will be reprising after her previous take on it in the 2011 miniseries "The Kennedys."

Holmes is also set to appear as a vigilante school teacher in the upcoming black comedy "Miss Meadows" which will be out Nov. 14.

Holmes also said her daughter Suri "means everything to [her]." She stated that she was "learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom."

"My patience has grown, but between 4 and 6 p.m. I mean, wow, between tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners along the way," she said.

Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise in 2012 and the pair signed a settlement a few weeks after. Holmes now has full custody of Suri and the mother-daughter pair currently resides in New York City.

Holmes' full interview is available on Oct. 29 issue of People magazine, out on newsstands Friday.
