Newlyweds George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are spending their honeymoon in North Island, Seychelles, the tourism minister for the 155-island country confirmed to The Telegraph.

The new husband and wife are believed to have chosen the Indian Ocean archipelago for their honeymoon after the Seychelles government recently introduced laws to protect the privacy of celebrities vacationing in their exotic country.

"We want people, famous or not, to be able to relax on their holiday," Alain St.Ange, the tourism minister for the country, told the Telegraph. "They shouldn't have to worry about being spied upon."

North Island, which has been developed as a private resort since 2003, is run by the eco-conscious South Africa -based company Wilderness Safari. The firm has managed the ecological restoration of the island for more than 10 years already.

The company's careful habitat management and a strict policy of sustainable development give the island's guests the feeling that they are in an untouched paradise, The Telegraph reported. Visitors can enjoy activities like scuba diving, sailing, snorkeling, bike rides and nature walks.

North Island has 11 villas, and each of which has its own pool. There is no menu for the restaurant as the resident chef prepares meals according to guests' requests.

Standard villas on the small granitic island start at £2,000 ($32,000) per night, but the newlyweds are believed to have chosen Villa 11, which is set apart and a bit larger than the others. Villa 11 costs a £3,200 ($51,000)a night.

A source told X17 Online that it was Brad Pitt who told Clooney to spend their honeymoon in North Island.

"George and Amal were looking for the ultimate, private getaway and I believe it was Brad who told him to go to this resort," the tipster said. "It's one of the most beautiful places on earth and George wanted to show Amal something even more amazing than Venice. It was the only place that could top off such an elaborate wedding."

Speaking of the couple's recent nuptials, a source told People that speculative reports claiming that their three-day wedding celebration cost $5 million to upwards of $13 million are erroneous.

The tipster told the magazine that their Italian wedding festivities only cost about $1.6 million, or a million British pounds.

In addition, reports claiming that Alamuddin's family was the one who shouldered all the wedding expenses are also inaccurate, People confirmed.
