Sony announced that it will launch its PlayStation TV in North America on Oct. 14 of this year, IGN reported.

The standalone system can be bought for $99.00. A package deal which includes the system, a wireless DualShock 3 controller, an 8 GB memory card as well as a copy of "The Lego Movie" game is also available for $140.00.

The PS TV can also support numerous PlayStation Vita games, either through the download versions or by inserting the game card. Aside from the handheld console's games, the system can also play the digital versions of PlayStation One and PSP titles, according to Game Spot.

For PlayStation 4 owners, they can utilize the PS TV's Remote Play feature to stream their games from the console. The games can also be streamed to other television sets connected to the PS TV.

In addition, Sony's latest device is equipped with the streaming service PS Now. This will allow gamers to play PlayStation 3 games using the PS TV.

Following the announcement of the system's launch, Sony revealed that almost 700 games will be available for the PS TV on its release date.

"With PlayStation TV's launch right around the corner on October 14, I'm pleased to confirm that nearly 700 games will be available in the U.S. and Canada on PS TV on day one," Sony's vice president of Platforms Marketing John Koller posted on the PlayStation blog.

According to the executive, these include established games such as "Metal Gear Solid," "Killzone: Mercenary" and "Persona 4 Golden," Game Informer reported.

"In addition, I'm pleased to announce that 'Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom from Little Orbit' will also be available in November for PS TV (as well as PS Vita)," he wrote.

"Our library will continue to expand, with other fan favorites like 'Minecraft' and more," Koller continued. "We're proud to bring such a broad array of content from multiple PlayStation platforms to PS TV, a small console at a great value."
