Who hasn't always wanted to try a pompadour? This look is super glam and super gorgeous! Singer Janelle Monae has made it her signature go-to look and we can totally see why! It's fabulous!

But this sophisticated pompadour is an elegant lifesaver for women on the go too. Design Essentials Master Educator Karen Stacks of Master's Hair Studio proved that this style is simple to execute in less than 30 minutes!

Here's how to nail it and channel your inner Monae:

Prep

First moisturize clean, dry hair with Design Essentials Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($14). "The key to getting the sleek sides and edges that make this look is by using a product with shine and hold that doesn't flake," Stacks noted.

"The Honey & Shea Edge Tamer not only does both of those, but it has naturally good ingredients as well." Stacks applied the brand's Honey & Shea Edge Tamer ($12) to hair, then usesd a boar bristle brush to secure hair into a ponytail at the center crown of the head.

Style

Stacks said the pompadour itself is simply a fluffy bun. To achieve enough volume, tease hair for fullness by backcombing with a brush.

And if your hair is short fear not! "If your hair is not long enough, you can use a Kanekalon ponytail extension in the same manner.

Hair is rolled under and pinned to the base of the ponytail, fingering into place for shape," the stylist demonstrated.

Finish

This simple style needs no additional finishing products, making it the ideal wash and go style! For maintenance, a silk or satin scarf tied around the nape and sides of hair will keep the look sleek.
