"This Is How We Do" singer Katy Perry does not agree that Hello Kitty is not a cat and she took to Twitter to insist that the Japanese character is really feline.

After making headlines for her VMA denim outfit with her recent collaborator Riff Raff channelling Britney Spears and Justin Bieber, Perry used her power as Twitter's most followed person to tell her fellow Hello Kitty fans that the recent revelation is false.

"IT'S OKAY HELLO KITTY FANS, KITTY PURRY IS A CAT," the 29-year-old pop star tweeted to her 56.1 million followers. The tweet was retweeted more than 8,000 times.

Perry herself is a big fan of Hello Kitty, according to Entertainmentwise.

She even named her "Hello Katy" tour after the Japanese character in 2009.

On Aug. 26, the University of Hawaii anthropologist Christine R. Yano told Los Angeles Times that Hello Kitty is a cartoon character, a little girl and a friend but not a cat.

"She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it's called Charmmy Kitty," said Yano, who is also the author of "Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty's Trek Across the Pacific."

According to Yano, Sanrio "very firmly" corrected her when she described Hello Kitty as a cat while preparing her written texts for the first ever Hello Kitty Con at the Japanese American National Museum in October in Los Angeles in October.

Meanwhile, Perry's former husband Russell Brand is making his own documentary titled "BRAND The Film" and the "This Is How We Do" singer will be featured in it.

Currently in post-production, "BRAND The Film" revolves around the comedian's biographical and spiritual journey from being a comedian to acting in films, Contact Music has learned.

Since Brand is a burgeoning political activist, the documentary will also feature Jesus, Mahatma Gandhi, Che Guevarra and Malcolm X.
