The Ralph Lauren clothing company will unveil its biometric shirts during this year's professional tennis tournament, the US Open, CNet reported.

The tight black shirts, dubbed as Polo Tech, are compression clothes equipped with biometric sensors that collect information from the wearer during physical activities. These sensors, which are knitted into the shirt, include a heartbeat monitor, gyroscope and accelerometer.

The collected information are then transferred to a module and displayed through an iOS app.

Ralph Lauren partnered with biometric clothes maker OMSignal to develop the Polo Tech.

With the help of the Polo Tech, wearers can monitor their respiration, heartbeat, stress levels, calories burned and overall energy output. They can then adjust their training regimen based on the data collected by the biometric shirts.

Although the Polo Tech shirts will make their debut at the US Open, they won't be worn by professional tennis players. Instead, the biometric shirts will be donned by the ball boys assisting the players.

As for the ball girls, they will be wearing their traditional uniforms since the biometric shirts for women are still in development.

For David Lauren, Ralph Lauren's senior vice president of advertising, marketing and public relations, the Polo Tech represents the company's pioneering status in the fashion industry, according to a press release.

"Ralph Lauren continues to be at the cutting edge of fashion and culture," Lauren said. "Our goal is to create and reflect the ultimate lifestyle, and we believe that a healthy and active life is an essential part of that."

"Ralph Lauren is excited to help lead the industry in wearable technology in this ever-evolving, modern world," he added.

For OMSignal, CEO Stephane Marceau believes partnering with Ralph Lauren is the perfect avenue to introduce wearable technology to the market.

"It was clear from our very first meeting that Ralph Lauren had clarity of mind about the future of fashion trends," the executive said.

"Its legendary Polo brand and unparalleled design and merchandising capabilities make Ralph Lauren a natural partner to bring smart clothing technology into everyday lives," she added.

The Polo Tech will hit the market in the first half of 2015, PC Mag reported.
