Pierce Brosnan is back to the spy genre!

The 61-year-old Irish actor, who is best known for his portrayal of James Bond from 1995 to 2002, is again playing another spy role in the upcoming action thriller film "The November Man."

"I'm playing the character of Peter Devereaux. 'Every time he goes to the city, everyone dies like it is winter' - this is a line from the book that the movie is based on and it perfectly captures the character, I think," said Brosnan of his role in the new Roger Donaldson-directed film, which he also co-produced, The New Indian Express reported.

Based on Bill Granger's "There Are No Spies," from his "The November Man" novel series, the flick follows a highly trained former CIA agent Peter Devereaux who is pulled out of retirement for one last mission, which is protect valuable witness, Alice Fournier, (Olga Kurylenko). Devereaux, however, soon learned that his assignment marks him a target of his former friend and CIA protégé David Mason, (Luke Bracey) because of the details he knows about the war crimes committed by the Russians, which caused the death of thousands of innocent people, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

In an interview with Metro News Canada, the Golden Globe-nominated actor seemed to suggest that his role as Devereaux is grittier and more dangerous than James Bond. In the upcoming movie, Devereaux killed a girl just so he could delay his enemies - something that Bond has never been portrayed doing before, according to the news site.

"It's a shocking act, on paper and on screen; it's one that, really, you roll the dice on and hope you don't disconnect with your audience," he said of the scene that establishes Devereaux dark persona. "By that stage, you already know anything can happen - and it does in the most graphic way. I love that scene; I think it defines the character, that keeps the audience off-centre."

When asked if he wishes he could reprise his role as Bond, he answered, "Yes and no. I struggled a lot to get under the skin of the suave British sleuth, who I played in four films between Golden Eye (1995) and Die Another Day (2002),"according to The New Indian Express.

"I had my own insecurities when portraying the role of James Bond," he added. "Daniel [Craig], on the other hand, makes a brilliant Bond. He owns it a 100 percent. But I had a fairly good audience with my days as Bond."

Though "The November Man" won't open in theaters until Aug. 27, a sequel to the film has already been greenlit with Relativity Studios soon entering pre-production, Coming Soon reported.
