"Bates Motel" co-showrunner Kerry Ehrin and star Freddie Highmore have sold a comedy script to NBC.

The pair is working together for a romantic comedy set up at NBC, with the peacock network giving out a script commitment to the project, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The yet to be titled half-hour single camera comedy, which will be written by Ehrin and Highmore, is set in the world of venture capitalism. It centers on the intimate relationship between an overly emotional but talented female executive and her ambitious and eccentric young British assistant, according to Variety.

Highmore and Ehrin will executive produce the comedy, which hails from Universal Television, where the latter has an overall deal.

The duo conceived the idea for the show while at this year's Critics Choice Awards, where Highmore and co-star Vera Farmiga were both nominated for their lead acting roles on "Bates Motel."  Highmore, 22, plays Norman Bates in the A&E drama thriller series, while Farmiga, 41, portrays Norman's mother, Norma.

Highmore, who is also known for his roles in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "August Rush" and "Finding Neverland," recently graduated from Cambridge University, and the comedy project with Ehrin marks his first time penning a pilot script.

There is no word yet whether Highmore will have an onscreen role should the project move forward.

Ehrin had already worked with NBC in the past. She worked as a consulting producer for the NBC drama series "Friday Night Lights" and also wrote some episodes for the Primetime Emmy-winning show. "Friday Night Lights" aired on NBC from 2006 to 2011.

Most recently, Ehrin collaborated with "Revenge's" Nikki Toscano for CIA drama "Red Zone." The said project made it to the pilot at CBS, but ultimately was not picked up. Aside from "Bates Motel," Ehrin's credits also include "Parenthood," "Boston Legal" and "Moonlighting."

In April, "Bates Motel" was renewed for a 10-episode third season, E! News reported.
