The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will have an additional feature consisting of special recording devices that can monitor the behavior of whoever is in the driver's seat, Motor Authority reported.
Dubbed as the Valet Mode, the devices can record interior audio, video and even driving data. The Corvette's high-definition cameras are mounted on the car's windshield borders while the driving data recorder is connected to the vehicle's system.
The footages as well as the data collected by Valet mode can be viewed through a touchscreen panel installed in the car's dashboard. These can be viewed instantly by the driver or downloaded using a computer.
As for the driving data recorder, car owners can check if the valet tested the Corvette's powerful engine, LA Times reported. It keeps track of the car's speed, the g-force on the vehicle while being driven and the engine's RPM.
According to Harlan Charles, Chevrolet's product manager for the new Corvette, the Valet Mode is a way for the company to ease the mind of owners about handing over their car keys to another person.
Particularly, the feature ensures that valet drivers are at their best behavior when handling the Corvettes.
"Think of it as a baby monitor for your car," Charles said. "Anyone who has felt apprehension about handling over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight."
The predecessor of the 2015 Corvette has an older version of the Valet Mode that only locks the car's storage containers and disables its entertainment system.
For the new model, the updated Valet Mode is part of the option package along with a navigation system for an additional price of $1,795, according to Edmunds.
Chevrolet spokesperson Monet Doran believes the applications of the new feature will sway buyers into getting the package.
"We expect about half of Corvette buyers to choose this feature," he said. "You know what can happen to your car when you turn over the keys.
The 2015 Corvette Stingray is scheduled to hit dealerships in September of this year.
