Marvel's "Ant-Man" started its principal photography in San Francisco Monday, Aug. 18. And that announcement comes with the revelation that the cast of the upcoming solo superhero film has just gotten bigger.

Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), Judy Greer (Arrested Development), John Slattery (Mad Men), Wood Harris (The Wire), Abby Ryder Forston (Togetherness), Gregg Turkington (Poolside Chats with Neil Hamburger), Michael Peña (American Hustle), David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) and rapper-actor T.I. have all been cast in the Peyton Reed-directed flick.

Slattery is presumed to reprise his role as Tony Star's father, Howard Stark, in "Iron Man 2," according to Cinema Blend.  His casting hints that other MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) characters like Peggy Carter, Arnim Zola and a young Alexander Pierce may also appear in the film.

Cannavale, on the other hand, is believed to replace Patrick Wilson, who exited the film after the production has been delayed due to the departure of the flick's original director Edgar Wright, Indie Wire reported. Wilson is set to film "The Blunderer" and "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, " which is also slated for a 2015 release just like "Ant-Man."

The newcomers join the previously announced cast members that include Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Hank's daughter Hope van Dyne and Corey Stoll as the villainous Yellowjacket.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is producing the film with Louis D'Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee executive producing, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Reed is directing from a script by Adam McKay, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.

"Ant-Man" is set to open in theaters on July 17, 2015. It is one of many films included on Marvel's busy release schedule for the next few years, which also includes "Avengers: Age of Ultron" on May 1, 2015, "Captain America 3" on May 6, 2016, and "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" on July 28, 2017.
