This week, we honor classic beauty, Beverly Johnson.

As the first African-American model to grace the cover of Vogue Magazine, this super model stunner is also an historic trailblazer.

Johnson, along with the iconic magazine she was featured on, recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the major moment.

Back in 1974, at the age of 22, this beautiful woman made her mark on the modeling world and society at large. The epic achievement launched Johnson's career, where she would also become the first woman of color to appear on the cover of French Elle as well.

"It feels like it was yesterday!" the legendary model exclaimed to Inside Edition. "I'm as excited as I was the day they told me that I was on the cover."

"It's everybody's dream to be on the cover of Vogue. It's every models dream, every actresses dream, it's everyone's dream to be on the cover."

Vogue continues to be the pulse of the fashion and modeling world, as it was when Johnson appeared on the cover. "For the fashion industry, it's the Bible," the model said. "That was the defining moment of my career."

Johnson didn't realize the significance of her accomplishment at first. "I later found out I was the first woman of color on the cover. And at first I didn't believe it," Johnson admitted.

The unknowing history maker said she had to go to editors at Vogue to verify that she had in fact been the first African-American woman to grace the cover.

To this day, Johnson says she has women approach her and thank her for her goal. "Women come up to me and say 'you don't know what it meant to see you and have a reflection of myself on that cover," she explained.

Thanks to Beverlly Johnson's trail blazing, other iconic models of color such as Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks have come after the legend to continue the diverse legacy of Vogue cover model beauty.
